About the King Cake
The King Cake tradition was brought to New Orleans from France in 1870 and is enjoyed only during Mardi Gras season, which starts on Jan 6 each year. The King Cake is a cinnamon filled, oval-shaped bakery delicacy that is a cross between a coffee cake and a French pastry, as rich in history as it is in flavor. The cake is topped with icing and colored sugar in the traditional, royal Mardi Gras colors: PURPLE which signifies "Justice," GREEN for "Faith," and GOLD for "Power." The tradition includes a prize hidden inside each King Cake. In the past, such things as coins, beans, pecans, or peas were also hidden, but today, a tiny plastic baby is the common prize.
At King Cake parties (held at least weekly!), the King Cake is sliced and served. The person receiving the piece containing the "Baby" is named "King" for a day and bound by custom to host the next party and provide the King Cake. The last day of King Cake season falls on Mardi Gras Day, which has a floating date and may occur on any Tuesday from February 3rd to March 9th. It is always the day before Ash Wednesday (the start of Lent…46 days before Easter).
King Cakes available starting Jan 6 2024!

"My wife is from Baton Rouge, so let's just say she is very particular about her King Cakes (particularly, Gambino's). When I brought this home, she was excited, but skeptical, as there are too many imposters. But she LOVED it!! We all did. Thanks for bringing a little bit of Louisiana to Louisville. We will be annual customers for sure!!"

"I am not a fan of King cake at all but yours is delicious! My only complaint is that it's completely addictive and I look forward to trying more of your pastries. Well done!"

"I wanted you to know that my amazingly delicious king cake arrived as expected yesterday evening and was enjoyed by friends who celebrated my birthday with me. It was negative 15 degrees here yesterday and FedEx still delivered (brave souls!). Thanks for the great service and product which served to warm up my day."
